  • Samantha Knaub Huesman

    Executive Director/Founder

    Samantha graduated from Regent University in 2015 with a BA in English and a minor in Psychology. After graduation she visited Zambia, where she instantly fell in love with the country and people. In 2016 Samantha moved to Livingstone where she helped build and run a primary school, providing free education and meals to 215 students. In January 2017, the school opened under Samantha's supervision as Headmistress. Longing to expand her vision and make a sustainable impact in children's lives, Samantha founded Free Haven Community Initiative. In the coming years Samantha wants to work more with local government and policy makers. Samantha is also a Somatic Trauma Informed Coach and Narcissistic Abuse Specialist.

  • Kellie Njekwa

    Chief Operations Officer

    Kellie graduated with a diploma in Psychosocial Counseling at Frontline Institute in Bindura, Zimbabwe, under Humana People to People (DAPP) in 1997–1999. She then worked as a Counselor under DAPP for four years. During those years as a counselor, she discovered children affected and infected with HIV/AIDS education in schools was limited and in return, decided to join the Ministry of Education. She completed her Primary Teacher Training at Mkoba Teacher’s College in Gweru, Zimbabwe, and joined Plan International as a HIV/AIDS advisor in schools. Kellie decided to shift to Zambia where she then got a Pre‑School Certificate as she wanted to learn more about Zambian cultures and traditions. In 2016, she joined FHCI helping our Executive Director with Administration work. She pursued her BAED in Primary Degree at Victoria Falls University of Technology in 2020 and is currently employed as our Chief Operations Officer.

  • Joshua Nyundo

    Chief Financial Officer

    Josh is a Chartered Accountant and a member of the Zambian Institute of Chartered Accountants (ZICA), as well as a Professional Speaker and Entrepreneur with strong experience in non-profit financial leadership and development. He joined the organization as a Consultant in November 2022 and was onboarded and promoted to Finance Manager in May 2023. His continued impact led to his promotion to Director of Finance and Development in August 2023, and subsequently to Chief Financial Officer (CFO) in January 2025. As CFO, Josh oversees financial strategy, governance, and sustainability in support of the organization’s mission.

  • Robson Chibule

    Human Resource Supervisor

    Robson is a Livingstone-based Human Resource professional currently serving as Human Resource Supervisor at Free Haven Community Initiative (FHCI). He joined the organization in January 2025 as a Human Resource Officer and was promoted to his current role in December 2025. He holds a Diploma in Human Resource and Public Administration from Evelyn Hone College, a Certificate in Business Management from Njase Hills Training Institute, and a Certificate in Corporate Governance and Labour Laws from the Technical Institute of Chilanga. Robson has prior experience with Soukaina Bakery Ltd, Spectrum Credit Ltd, Zamtel, and Airtel, and is committed to strengthening people management systems that support FHCI’s mission of community empowerment.

  • Karen Muzunda

    Program Manager

    Karen completed her Primary Diploma course in 2015 and began her teaching career at a local primary school. She later joined Lizauli Combined School in Katima Mulilo, Namibia, before moving on to teach at Ebenezer Trust School in Livingstone, Zambia. In addition to her teaching experience, Karen is a trained counselor and a certified public speaker. She is also an Award Leader, Adventurous Journey Supervisor, and Adventurous Journey Assessor. Karen began volunteering with FHCI at the end of 2023 and officially joined the team as a Program Supervisor in 2024. Her commitment and leadership led to her promotion to Program Manager at the beginning of 2025

  • Rebecca Young

    Grants and Donor Relations Manager

    Rebecca graduated with a BA in Sociology and a minor in Women's Studies from Western Kentucky University. She also holds a Masters in Social Work from the University of Hawaii and is a Licensed Social Worker in two states. Additionally, Rebecca has been published in two scientific journals for the research she assisted with while in graduate school and is a Returned Peace Corps Volunteer. She has 20 years of experience in social work, including fundraising and grant-writing. Rebecca fell in love with Zambia while traveling and we are excited to have her join us in 2025!

  • Robert Siakulipa

    Financial Data Analyst

    Robert is a Zambian citizen currently living in Livingstone, but has lived in various cities in Zambia with a notable amount of time spent in Lusaka. He spent his primary school days in Lusaka and secondary school days in Chongwe. He holds a degree in Economics and Finance from Mulungushi University and is a qualified financial analyst affiliated with the Economic Association of Zambia (EAZ). Robert joined FHCI in 2025 and started his professional journey as an Accountant, applying his analytical background to the detailed discipline of financial reporting.

  • Ettah Mulongo

    Project Supervisor

    Ettah is a dedicated team member and a current student upgrading his degree program at David Livingstone Teacher Training College. He brings a wealth of experience in education, project coordination, and is a vital contributor to impactful projects and initiatives. His academic background includes a Certificate in Early Childhood Education from Mosi-O-Tunya College of Education (2014) and a Diploma in Secondary Teaching from David Livingstone College of Education (2019). He taught at various institutions, including Ray Ross, KFH Community School, and Maher Academy. He joined Free Haven Community Initiative in 2020 as a Project Coordinator and was recently promoted to Project Supervisor.

  • Mwaka Mushabati

    Project Coordinator

    Mwaka holds a Certificate in Early Childhood Education from Mosi-o-Tunya College of Education (2014). She has worked as an intern with the NGO Coordinating Council, (NGOCC), and served as a teacher at Kwatu Free Haven Community School. From 2018 to 2020, she taught at Baobuyu Learning Center. In 2021, Mwaka served as Lead Coordinator at Free Haven Community Initiative (FHCI). She later taught at Kool Kidz Pre and Primary School before resuming her role as Project Coordinator at Free Haven Community Initiative in 2024. Mwaka is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Education in Early Childhood Education at David Livingstone College of Education.

  • Samuel Imasiku

    Project Coordinator

    Samuel is an education professional with experience in teaching, learner support, and academic coordination. He holds qualifications from Mosi-o-Tunya College of Education and David Livingstone College of Education, and joined our team full-time in 2019. He is currently completing a Bachelor’s Degree in Education at Kwame Nkrumah University and studies in Management and Administration as well as Counseling, with completion expected in April 2026. He is committed to professional growth and improving educational outcomes through learner-centered support and leadership.

  • Chaona Mtine

    Social Worker

    Chaona is a dedicated Social Work professional with over six years of experience in child protection, psychosocial support, HIV/AIDS programming, and community-based implementation. She also holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work from Mulungushi University (2014). Chaona’s career began at Society for Child Protection, where she served as a Child Advocate. She later obtained a Certificate in Psychosocial Counselling from University Teaching Hospital (UTH) and went on to work as a Lay Counsellor under the UTH HIV/AIDS Program (UTH-HAP) for three years. She is deeply passionate about advocacy work and fostering change in people’s lives. Chaona brings a strong blend of compassion, professionalism, and results-oriented thinking to every task she undertakes.

  • Sarah Nasilele

    Mental Health Counselor

    Sarah is making waves with her passion and expertise! She holds a diploma in Psychosocial Counselling from Purview University and is also a qualified secondary school teacher with a diploma from David Livingstone College of Education in Religious Education and Social Studies. Additionally, she has certifications in Healthcare Assistance, Social Work, and Leadership and Human Resource Management from Nsanje Hills Training Institute. Sarah's journalistic background with the CIC Press Team saw her highlighting community issues and cultural histories like the Livingstone Motor Assembly and Forest of Faces. Sarah joined Free Haven Community Initiative on September 30th, 2024 as an intern, and by January 2025, she joined the staff as a full-time Mental Health Counselor. This dedicated professional is all about creating lasting change and sustainability.

  • ‎Mwendalubi Constance Kabbudula

    Project Coordinator

    Mwendalubi is a vibrant, dynamic, and cheerful professional with a strong background in education. She obtained a Diploma in Secondary School Teaching from David Livingstone College of Education where she majored in Mathematics and Social Studies. ‎‎As a trained secondary school teacher, Mwendalubi is passionate about empowering learners through interactive and inclusive teaching methods. She believes in creating a positive classroom environment that nurtures critical thinking, confidence, and lifelong learning among students. Her commitment to excellence, discipline, and creativity reflects her dedication to quality education and student success.

  • Martha Mbangweta

    Campaign and Social Media Coordinator

    Martha holds a Bachelor’s in Business Administration and is pursuing a Master’s in Project Management at Cavendish University. She has certifications in Psychosocial Counseling, HIV Testing, and Digital Skills. With experience at Family Legacy, YWCA/DREAMS, and Copper Rose Zambia, Martha has led projects, mentored youth, and driven impactful campaigns. Passionate about storytelling and digital media for social change, she joined FHCI in 2025 after a successful volunteer period marked by creativity and commitment to the mission.

  • Forest Hall

    President

    Forest is an experienced entrepreneur, program manager, and volunteer with the United Nations. He has a degree from the University of Minnesota in Social Justice, Business, and Leadership and is currently pursuing a graduate degree in International Development from the University of York in England. Strong with developing relationships, Forest has experience growing organizations through financial, operational, and external partnership support. Passionate about finding ways to help the world fulfil the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, he is deeply motivated by Free Haven Community Initiative’s mission of holistic poverty alleviation for vulnerable families in Zambia.

  • Roark Robinson

    Vice President

    Roark is an architect with a broad range of experience from large urban design schemes to impactful local insertions. Working in South Africa has given him the opportunity to be involved in many social and community driven projects and much of his academic and professional focus has been on the development of affordable housing in South Africa and around the world. Roark recently founded Roro, a design consultancy that works on global projects surrounding the growing housing crisis in the world’s major cities, with a focus on affordability and the development of active and engaged urban spaces. His experience will be instrumental as FHCI moves through the process of developing its planned community center in Livingstone.

  • Caroline Thompson

    Secretary

    Caroline is an international relations professional who has spent time in both the United States and the United Kingdom. Graduating from Michigan State University with a BA in International Relations and a minor in Business, her work focused on the advancements in cybertechnology and cybersecurity. After graduating from MSU, Caroline’s passion for International Relations led to her pursuing a Masters Degree in International Relations at the University of Kent, where she graduated with merit. At the University Caroline’s work was strongly focused on peace and cooperation in times of Climate Change and Environmental Distress. While at Michigan State, Caroline began interning at FHCI in 2022. During this time she helped support many of the programs FHCI has to offer, with her focus on the Grant and Fundraising Departments. She has since continued to volunteer until joining the board in the summer of 2025.

  • Adam Cowperthwait

    Treasurer

    Adam is an experienced sales leader with a passion for philanthropy and global advancement and a degree in Hotel, Restaurant, and Institutional Management from the University of Delaware. As the Director of Sales at Avkin, Adam has driven significant revenue growth while managing a diverse international sales team. His dedication to empowering communities is evident in his founding of Bitcoin Victoria Falls, an initiative in Zambia focused on financial education and empowerment through open-source code. Adam's strong background in financial operations, international communication, and nonprofit work, combined with his leadership skills, makes him a valuable member of the board.

  • Maheen Hassan

    Board Member

    Maheen is a versatile professional with a Bachelors of Business Administration from the University of Toronto, specializing in Finance and Business Management. With over three years of cross-industry experience, Maheen has held leadership positions in design, consulting, and finance, demonstrating her ability to lead cross-functional teams and deliver impactful results. She founded SeedxTech, a product design and branding firm, where she helped small to mid-sized businesses transition to virtual models during the COVID-19 pandemic. Her experience also includes roles in fund accounting, strategic partnerships, and policy research, contributing to her comprehensive understanding of financial systems and business strategy.

  • Patrick Sipilingani

    Board Member

    Patrick is a dedicated and hardworking medical doctor who received his Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery from Mulungushi University here in Zambia. With a strong passion for health promotion and patient care, Patrick has developed excellent skills in infection prevention, decision-making, and problem-solving. He also contributes to health education initiatives and mentors junior students. We are particularly happy to have Patrick on the board because he was the first student sponsored by FHCI to graduate from university. He has decided to pay it forward, and we’re so excited to have his invaluable insight help guide our future decisions.

  • Amanda Arsenith

    Board Member

    Amanda is a Master’s student in International & European Relations and a qualified English teacher with a strong interest in education, gender equality, and sustainable development. Through her work with Free Haven Community Initiative, she has supported curriculum development, research, and community programs focused on teenage pregnancy prevention, maternal health, and youth empowerment. Her work combines academic research with hands-on program design, helping translate global policy goals into locally relevant and sustainable initiatives. Amanda is particularly passionate about inclusive education, ethical development practice, and long-term capacity building at the community level.

  • Jack Bbabbi Mukulu

    Board Member

    Jack is an experienced development professional with over 23 years in the NGO sector, specializing in governance, public policy, youth leadership, financial inclusion, and community development. Currently serving as the Director of Programmes at Zambia Red Cross Society, Jack provides strategic leadership in humanitarian and development programs. He has also worked as the Interim Program Manager at Aflatoun International, the Country Director at Miracle Corners Zambia, and the Deputy Chief Executive Officer at the Zambian Governance Foundation. He holds a Ph.D. in Business and Management from the University of Zambia, and his rich background in project management, fundraising, and capacity building will be incredible assets to FHCI.

  • Catherine Henderson

    Board Member

    Catherine is a Senior Project Manager at Bradley Project Management with a Bachelor of Science in Geography, specializing in sustainable development. Over her career, Catherine has developed a robust skill set by working across various multidisciplinary fields, from managing large-scale geothermal power station projects to overseeing local infrastructure developments. Catherine's entrepreneurial spirit led her to also establish and operate a business dedicated to providing healthy and nutritious meals for babies and young children. For seven years, she navigated the challenges of running a business, focusing on delivering quality products that supported the well-being of young families. Catherine’s connection to FHCI began when she volunteered with the organization in Livingstone for a month. Her deep passion for the organization's goals led her to join the board in 2024, where she continues to contribute her expertise and commitment to sustainable development.

  • Emmanuel Phiri

    Board Member

    Emmanuel is an expert agricultural economist and thought leader in Financial Inclusion. He has lead multi sectoral projects in Agriculture, Health and Nutrition, Environment, Finance and Technology. He has worked extensively on issues of market systems development, trade, regional and global value chains, and economic regulation in Southern Africa advising governments, NGOs and businesses. Emmanuel is a member of Market Systems Community Hub of Practice and African Agricultural Economics Association. Emmanuel also has over 10 years’ experience in Market Systems Development, Inclusive Development Finance, Sustainable Finance, Rural development and Climate change, Knowledge Management, Financial Inclusion, Gender, Social Inclusion and Women Empowerment.

  • Walusungu Nyachikanda

    Board Member

    Walusungu Nyachikanda is deeply passionate about empowering children and communities through education and innovation. She is the Founder and Executive Director of Caswatu Home of Hope Foundation, an initiative focused on equipping children with skills in entrepreneurship, financial literacy, computer science and environmental education. She also founded BitJR Academy and Space, where children aged 6–17 learn about Bitcoin and decentralized technologies. For Walusungu, Bitcoin is a powerful tool to advance her mission of creating opportunities for young people and promoting community empowerment. Currently pursuing a degree in Robotics and Cybernetics, she blends technical knowledge with a strong commitment to both human and environmental rights.

  • Curtis Correll

    Board Member

    Curtis is an accomplished growth strategist and digital marketing expert with a strong focus on leveraging data to drive performance. He graduated with a double major in Economics and German Language from Washington and Lee University. As the Founder of UpRight Growth Company, he specializes in using advanced data analytics to optimize marketing campaigns and deliver outstanding results for clients. Curtis has held key roles in companies like HealthCare.com, where he led performance marketing innovations, and Fēnx Digital, focusing on paid search and e-commerce strategies. His extensive experience spans industries such as financial services, e-commerce, and healthcare, making him a valuable asset to the board.

  • Humphrey Simwinga

    Board Member

    Humphrey holds a degree in Nuclear Engineering and Thermal Physics from Russia. He is a Bitcoin educator and the co-founder of Bitcoin Victoria Falls, a Zambian initiative focused on empowering individuals through financial education. Humphrey is actively engaged in building a local community by organizing educational meetups and workshops, with the long-term goal of fostering a sustainable Bitcoin circular economy. A firm believer in decentralization and individual empowerment, he leverages his technical expertise and community leadership to provide valuable insights to the board.

  • Alissa Gardner

    Board Member

    Alissa brings a wealth of experience in program management, stakeholder engagement, and conservation. She holds a Master of Education in Environmental Education and a Bachelor of Science in Applied Economics from the University of Minnesota. Currently, she serves as the Event & Program Manager at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, where she leads the Grad Academy's professional and career development programming, managing events, workshops, and initiatives aimed at supporting a diverse student body. With a strong background in environmental education, she has worked on numerous conservation projects and partnered with federal agencies to drive climate-related efforts. She even worked with FHCI previously as a volunteer researcher in 2022 and 2023, and we are so happy she decided to join our board in 2024!
